Stephanie teaches me how to make her signature salad also known as Stephanie’s salad. Stephanie and I met through Nicolle shortly after I moved back to San Francisco. She’s hilarious and we probably wouldn’t have crossed lives without having Nicolle as a mutual friend. Thanks again for teaching me how to make such a delicious meal!!
My friend Ashley is a woman with many talents so when it came to deciding what to teach me there were many options to choose from. She’s an amazing cook and sInce we are now fully into fall (which is bananas), she decided to go with an autumn theme of teaching a variety ways to use pumpkins and squash besides just carving them for decoration. I loved these simple recipes and definitely will be incorporating them in my future Halloween and Thanksgiving parties. Thanks Ashley for sharing your skills in the kitchen!
Last week, my friends at Cerveceria de MateVeza organized an amazing event where they rented an SF Muni cable car and invited 40 people to hop on and enjoy the evening filled with music, beers and good times while cruising around the city at sunset. I brought my mic along figuring I would be surrounded by friends and knew this would be a great situation to learn something. What happened next, I could not have predicted. Following my friend, Abby’s suggestion, I approached Chu and we became fast friends. He is such an awesome guy and was totally all about the group having a good time.
Operating and riding around the cable car that night was yet another reminder of why San Francisco is such a special place with really lovely and fun people. I will admit that my transition to SF from NYC has not been the easiest but these experiences help make me realize that the best is yet to come. Thanks again to the guys at Cerveceria. You all should like their FB page and make sure to stop by and grab a beer if you’re in SF. Also, I’d love to thank San Francisco for providing this awesome muni ride service. You really outdid yourself with this one:)
This past weekend I celebrated my friend, Lisa’s bachelorette in Napa with my college friends. Of course, I had to do some FWB episodes. Emily volunteered but had a hard time deciding what to do. I wanted her to do her infamous “walk into a pole” move but as it turns out she was a little rusty. What she wasn’t rusty at was becoming Britney. So after a fun night out with maybe a few glasses of wine, we embraced Britney.
Em and I met in college freshmen year and discovered that we grew up a town away from each other. She is one to always bring the fun and never a dull moment. It was such a great weekend hanging with my friends from Maryland. Even though we don’t see each other much, it’s always a guaranteed good time!
Thanks Em….I mean Britney.
Please forgive the shakiness and blurriness…it’s essentially seeing the night through our eyes.
This was my first year going to Burning Man which was a total bucket list event for me. I am so grateful that I was able to go with such an amazing group and experience my first year with close friends as well as new friends including Archimedes. Archimedes who came to Burning Man all by himself (really bold move), was our neighbor and basically became part of Dusty Phoenix (our camp) the day we met. We filmed this FWB on the last day and hottest day of Burning Man hence the awesome outfit and hair. If you would like to learn more about Polish Hand Magic, click here.
Burning Man was such a surreal and awesome experience. It helped me appreciate what I have and all the awesome people I get to call my friends. It also reminded me to stay open to everyone because everyone brings something special and different to the table for others to enjoy like Polish Hand Magic;) So thank you Archimedes for being an awesome neighbor and totally down to do an FWB. Also, thank you to the whole Dusty Phoenix crew for reminding me that everything will work out and that I’m surrounded by such wonderful people.
Oh and PS-I discovered the sound effects on IMovie and got inspired to make a little montage at the end of the video of some of my favorite pieces of art at Burning Man.
This was one of the ultimate impromtu FWB episodes. I brought my mic along to my friend, Patty’s going away party in Dolores Park because I made a plan to make a video with my friend, Kyle. Lo and behold, Polly was in town from NYC and attending Patty’s party (they went to college together). While waiting for Kyle, we were catching up and she started explaining what her lesson would be. I quickly stopped her and got out my IPhone to make it happen. Polly and I met through friends (Patty and co) during my first run in SF and it was so great to see her and have her participate in FWB in one of our favorite places in the city. I love and totally appreciate her enthusiasm for FWB which was so encouraging and awesome to hear. She’s definitely a natural in front of the camera;) Thanks Polly for being so fun and proving that SF is such a special place that we’ll always have no matter where we live in the world.
I just got back from an amazing trip back to Boston. It was so great spending time with family and friends as well as going to one of my first childhood friend’s wedding and of course seeing, Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z at Fenway. During my stay, I was super excited to have my dad teach me how to golf while my mom manned the IPhone. I loved making this FWB and spending time with my parents. It’s hard living on different coasts and definitely not ideal. I think a lot of West Coast transplants feel this way and go through the questioning of living so far from family. (My ultimate dream of being bicoastal would solve this issue). I also feel very grateful I was able to make this FWB and have my father around to do it. We almost lost him to a stroke in 1995 and I can’t imagine spending the last 18 years without him. My parents are the best and I’m so lucky to have such a good support system.
Thanks Mom and Dad again for everything! You are the best and I love you SOOOO much! Love, your favorite:)
Bi introduces me to his favorite Banh Mi place in San Francisco, Saigon Sandwich. I was super excited about his idea to deconstruct the Banh Mi because it’s an amazing sandwich which a lot of people don’t know about and I’ve been craving one for a really long time. My friend, Liz, introduced me to Banh Mi when I moved to Brooklyn in 2010. Since then, I’ve been hooked and eating four different sandwiches at one time was pretty stellar.
I’ve known of Bi for years but it wasn’t until after he met all of my other friends that we finally connected. Here’s the timeline: Bi met Ashley and Tracy at Nicolle’s birthday party a while ago. They all hit it off and when my friends from Canton came to visit the girls in SF, Bi met and became friends with them. I heard a lot about this Bi but never got to meet him until I moved back to SF. We’ve hung out a bunch since then and I now know why all my friends love him. Bi is such a great person and I’m lucky to finally get to experience it for myself. Thanks Bi for exposing me to SF’s best food and of course for being awesome.
And yes, I apologize for the poor angles. It’s time to invest in tripod. My lamp with tape tripod is failing me.
When I moved back to San Francisco, I was lucky enough to move in with my friend, Sheila and her dog, Ginger. Ginger is a rescue dog with the biggest heart. She spends half her time on her hind legs and loves to love. She is definitely top ten cutest dogs in SF. I knew I had to get Ginger on FWB and when I discovered her spot on impersonation of a siren, it was on. Every time a fire truck went by, I would be scrambling to get my phone and praying that she was feeling it that day. Thanks GG for showing me your skills and being a constant reminder to live in the moment and always have fun.
My friend, Leigh, taught me sign language this weekend while celebrating her birthday. We were brainstorming a couple weeks back where she claimed she had nothing to teach me but that was far from the truth. She grew up communicating with her voice but also her hands. I remember signing a lot as a child thanks to Linda from Sesame Street and was reintroduced while working with toddlers with autism. It’s an amazing skill that opens your world to so many more people and I would definitely like to become more fluent. We had a great day celebrating as well as reflecting on how lucky we all are in our lives while appreciating and recognizing the challenges and strengths of other people, families and communities. Thanks again, Leigh, for my ASL lesson and here’s to a great year ahead!!!
