My friend, Sharon, is super creative and seriously crafty and I must say, I’m a little envious of her skills. She even has a craft corner in her apartment. Today, in said craft corner, Sharon shows me how use her button maker to make button pins. We had an awesome time making this FWB and I’m totally inspired to dedicate more time to arts and crafts. Thanks Sharon for the inspiration, bomb lunch, and good times!
Lo siento for the hiatus but FWB is back and better than ever. I am now just getting settled in my new apartment in SF and able to convince my west coast friends that they have skills that I want to learn. I’m hoping to take Friendships With Benefits to new heights with my move to SF and I think this FWB sets the standard. We had amazing weather for President’s Day Weekend and I was lucky enough to have my friend, Ryan, teach me how to prep for an awesome surf session in Bolinas. Ryan loves outdoor activities and is quite talented at documenting his experiences with his GoPro camera. You can check out his amazing photography on Instagram. Become his follower to keep up with his epic adventures. Ryan is also featured on GoPro’s Photo of the Day . Congrats, R!!
This is not your typical FWB but I wanted to add this post because this project meant a lot to me. Underground Entertainment: NYC began in October of 2011 when I was inspired to record a man singing in a wolf mask on Halloween. From there, I decided to record all the entertainment I witnessed in the NYC subways for a year. This project helped me appreciate the art and artists instead of becoming annoyed at the dancers blasting music after a really long day. There are so many aspects to NYC and this is one that is easily ignored but so apparent if you travel by train. Enjoy!
For my last FWB while on my #35dayadventure, I learned how to count to 5 in 5 different languages from my new friend, Currie. I met Currie through Sofia when we all met up in Phuket towards the end of our trip. I definitely continued practicing counting for the rest of my trip but can’t claim I know all the numbers. Traveling made me realize how grateful I am to have English as my first language but really wanting to become more fluent in other languages. I guess I just have to keep traveling and practicing to do that;)
After riding on the back of the motorbike for 4 weeks all over Southeast Asia, it was my turn to drive. My good friend Sofia insisted that this be her lesson even though I was obviously hesitant. She learned in Myanmar where she currently lives and works as a teacher. Sof was confident that I could do it.
I’m happy to report that my skills improved immensely and the next day I drove for about 30 min on the roads of Phuket in the rain.
Thanks Sof for being an amazing teacher and encouraging me even when I was beyond nervous. You are the best travel buddy a girl could ask for!!! xo
While in Ubud, Bali, I met Emilie through my friend, Melissa. I saw her sarong tied in a very cool way and asked her if she’d be willing to teach me on the Internet of course. I loved getting to know and hang with Emilie during my trip in Bali. It was so great to see Melissa have such good people in her life. thank you emmie for teaching me your sarong skills and I can’t wait to show off my new amazing leather bag that you designed. peaches and bananas xo
On my adventure, I traveled to Bali for 10 days. My good friend from growing up, Melissa, lives in Ubud and hosted me for the majority of my trip. She of course offered to do an FWB lesson. It was so nice to be with an old friend in a new place and reflect on our childhoods as well as rediscover our friendship in new ways. Check out how to open a coconut and watch Emilie, Melissa’s gf do it in a minute thirty. http://youtu.be/heWprF278vs
While in Bangkok, my friend, Ethan, teaches me some Thai phrases. Ethan is currently teaching English in Thailand for a year. It was so nice to hang out and see a familiar face in such an unfamiliar place. We filmed this FWB in a park by the Chao Phraya River. Bangkok was a great first stop on my 35 day adventure. You can check out some of my pictures through Instagram. I promised my mom I would upload as much as possible so she knows I’m ok and she can have a vicarious journey.
***I’m sad that I can’t edit my videos like I normally do but I bought the wrong converter 😦 I’ve learned that flexibility is key when traveling as well as going with the flow.
As you can see this is not an FWB lesson. FWB is on hiatus due to moving, the flu and preparing to for a month of travel. Instead please watch this video montage I made as part of the application process to attend “The Bold Academy.” It was really fun to make and it really proved how powerful the year of 2012 was for me. Unfortunately, I am not able to attend The Bold Academy due to finances but I think my coming adventures will help me get to where I am supposed to be.
As most of you know, I’ve recently moved out of NYC. On December 6th, I’m leaving to spend 35 days in Southeast Asia. I’ll be traveling to Thailand, Bali and Laos. I will be traveling by myself and meeting up with friends along the way. I’m super excited for this experience because this was one of my goals in 2012- Figure out how to take a long trip by myself to an awesome part of the world. On January 10th, I land in SF to reunite with my favorite city and my new home. So here goes nothing. I’m excited to bring Friendships With Benefits abroad and can’t wait to meet my new friends who will soon be my teachers. Stay tuned. 🙂
There are two kinds of friends when it comes to Friendships With Benefits. The ones that say they have nothing to teach and the ones that know exactly what they want to teach me. Then there is Brad. Brad gave me about 4+ choices to choose from including how to walk NYC streets to the Sexual Growl. I obviously chose the latter. Thanks Brad for being so awesome and eager to participate in Friendships With Benefits. You are a man with many talents and I’m a woman who needs to practice her sexual growl.
